A record 44.2 million Americans were projected to travel at least 50 miles from their homes this holiday weekend from Friday through Monday, according to the auto club AAA. That would be 1.25 million more than last year.
Most of those travelers – 37.5 million – will drive to their destinations, spurred by cheap gas. The average price per gallon is 4 cents lower than last year, at $2.28, according to AAA.
“Drivers should pack their patience," with motorists scheduling breaks every two hours or 100 miles to remain alert.
Heavy traffic can also lead to frustrated drivers and road rage," so remember to share the road this holiday. The goal is to get to your destination safely — not win a fight.”
